START A CHAPTER/AFFILIATE IN YOUR COMMUNITY or ON YOUR CAMPUS

The National Women's Alliance is a national organization working to improve the lives of women and girls of color. We need your help to build a strong organization and to advance a social justice agenda that is progressive, inclusive, and representative of the lives and experiences of women and girls of color throughout the world.

 

Start a Chapter / Affiliate If:
 
 


• You want your voice to be heard;
• You are committed to social justice and social change;
• You understand the need to coalition build and form alliances with people
working to end sexism, classism, homophobia, heterosexism, racism and
ethnocentrism on all levels;
• You believe that a small group of people CAN make a difference;
• You know that all forms of oppression are connected and that we cannot
address one form without addressing others.

 
 

Types of Work You Can Do As A Chapter/Affiliate:

 
 


• Plan a mini-conference on an issue impacting women and girls of color
in your community.
• Host workshops or panels on sexual assault or domestic violence in your
community.
• Spearhead a letter writing campaign on issues impacting women and girls
of color in your community.
• Assist national headquarters in its organizing efforts and campaigns.
• Organize a book club or consciousness-raising group in your community
focusing on the intersections of race, class, gender, sexual orientation,
and ethnicity.
• Form a working group to solve a particular issue impacting women and
girls of color.

Your first step in starting a chapter or an affiliate is to contact our office at (202) 518-5411 or toll-free at 1-866-NWAFORCHANGE for an application. We will provide you with technical assistance in completing the forms and answer any questions you might have about the process.


 
 

How Many People Do I Need To Start a Chapter/Affiliate?
 
 


You need at least THREE People to start a chapter or an affiliate. If you are under the age of 18, at least one person must be an adult. If you would like to start a chapter on your campus, you must check with you student activities office about the number of people needed for you to become recognized at your institution.
