HOW WE DEFINE NATIONAL

When most people think of national organizations, they think of large advocacy organizations that have very little connection to local communities or grassroots organizations. The National Women's Alliance is re-defining what it means to be a national organization by focusing primarily on building the capacity of community-based and grassroots organizations to effectively serve their constituencies and challenge oppression and domination in their communities.

Local initiatives and efforts guide our work. We are not interested in advocacy or social justice work that is disconnected or not informed by things happening on the ground or in the lives of women and girls of color.

We work directly with local community-based, grassroots organizations, campuses, social justice activists, and community leaders to help create a progressive agenda for social and political change; build their capacity to advocate at the local, state and national levels; link them to other progressive organizations with similar goals and objectives to leverage resources; and provide on-going training and technical assistance.
