C. Nicole Mason is the Founder and Executive Director of
the National Women's Alliance, a multi-issue, human rights
and
social justice women of color organization. Nicole is a graduate
of Howard University and advanced PhD candidate at the University
of Maryland, College Park in the Department of Government
and Politics with concentrations in political philosophy
and social
policy. Nicole is a community organizer and activist of over
eight years and has worked on a range of social justice issues
including violence against women, the prison industrial complex,
LGBTQ rights, prostitution, reproductive rights, welfare
reform, and racial and economic justice. She is a Patricia
Roberts
Harris Public Policy Fellow and recipient of the Dillon Fellowship
in American Politics. Ms. Mason is a 2004 regional finalist
for the Emerging Leaders Initiative of the Ford Foundation.
Presently, she is a member of the Institute for Women’s
Policy Research Advisory Board for the Status of Women in the
Fifty States and the California Coalition Against Sexual Violence
Advisory board for the Department of Justice since 1999. Ms.
Mason has also taught at the Institute for Policy Studies’ Social
Action and Leadership School for Activists and appeared on
NPR affiliates across the country.
