Volunteers and interns are integral parts of the National Women's Alliance. In building a strong women of color organization, we need volunteers to help us build and strengthen our programs and shape the organization. We need women of color from diverse backgrounds and experiences to help create and advance a progressive agenda for social, economic, and political change. Internship Opportunities

 
 


The National Women’s Alliance is hiring for 2 internship positions for Summer 2005, in Washington, DC.
We are looking for motivated, hardworking, self-starters with a strong commitment to social justice, women and girls of color.

OFFICE MANAGER/EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Office Manager serves to maximize the effectiveness of the organization. The position is ideal for someone who is looking to learn the nuts and bolts of running a non-profit organization. The Office Manager will assist with basic financial services; assist with the management of personnel benefits; answer phones; help manage email correspondence; conduct relevant research; monitor and order office supplies; and conduct general office maintenance. S/he will keep abreast of relevant issues and coordinate the collection and filing of news articles, reports and other material.

MEMBERSHIP & OUTREACH COORDINATOR

Working under the supervision of the Programs Director and Training Coordinator, the Membership & Outreach Coordinator will develop and maintain the organization’s database, develop email lists; potentially manage a list serve; initiate contact with potential advocates and organizations, maintain contact with our partners; and coordinate local events. S/he will also assist with the development of the organization’s newsletter, brochures, and other materials; maintain and manage the website; and will write organizational briefs to be posted on the site. Should have experience with layout, editing and material design; HTML and other graphic programs for website development; and strong writing skills.

DETAILS: Start Date - May 2005. 20 hours/week, negotiable. NWA will work with faculty or campus career center on credits and the academic responsibilities of interns.

Volunteer Applications
We accept volunteer applications any time of the year. As a volunteer you can work to help develop current programs, spearhead new projects, help fundraise, work on a special event, conduct training or community workshops, or provide administrative support.

Time Commitment
You can volunteer as much or as little as you want with the organization keeping in mind some projects require a larger time commitment than others. You may choose to volunteer weekly, monthly, or work on a specific event or project.
