Women and Girls of Color Leadership Development Program
The
NWA Women and Girls of Color Leadership Program focuses on
building the skills and capacity of women and girls of color
to lead movements for social and political justice.
The program is devoted to bringing women and girls of color
together through workshops, trainings, and retreats to share
and exchange resources and information; develop their skills
and capacity to lead movements for social change; and promote
coalition building and collaboration among marginalized groups
and communities.
LEADERSHIP
DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
WOMEN
OF COLOR LEADERSHIP RETREAT
The Women of Color Leadership Retreat focuses on building
the leadership skills of women of color who lead or direct
community-based or grassroots organizations or who hold leadership
positions in community-based initiatives or efforts. The purpose
of the three-day retreat is to strengthen the leadership skills
and capacity of women of color working in various social justice
movements. The retreat will provide training and technical
assistance on issues such as project development and management;
fundraising, creating visibility and credibility building,
coalition and alliance building, personnel issues, sustainability,
and building a multi-issue agenda in social justice movements
or in communities.
NWA YOUTH FELLOWSHIP PROJECT
The NWA Youth Fellowship Program provides young women and
girls of color between the ages of 16-26 with the opportunity
to develop their leadership skills; work to improve their
communities; and become active participants in movements for
social justice.
NWA Youth Fellowship program is located in Washington, DC,
and links young women and girls of color to nonprofit organizations
that have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and
helping others. Fellows work 24-32 hours a week and participate
in a Service-Learning Institute once a week for 8 hours. During
the Institute, Fellows learn grassroots organizing skills;
how to build a multi-issue organizing agenda for social change;
and how to effect change at the community, state, and national
levels.
During the program, Fellows will work closely with a community
advocate to design a service-learning project based on their
community that will be implemented once their fellowship is
completed. Fellows receive a $500.00 stipend to implement
their project in their community.
We are currently seeking funding for these leadership initiatives.
We plan to hold our first Leadership retreat in the Fall of
2004 and host our first youth fellows in the Summer of 2004.
